Cad Timeline
The following Timeline is a very basic representation
of events which highlights the Industry beginnings and growth.
The last page has a list of the most prominent companies with links to their detailed timelines.
 

1960-1979

1965Patrick Hanratty co-designs first CADD/CAM system while at GM Research Labs
1972Computervision and Applicon founded as spin-offs of MIT labs
 MCS Releases Adam the first commercially available Cad System 
1973Unigraphics release its version of Adam
1974Intergraph, then M&S Computing, introduces Interactive Graphics Design System (IGDS) where MicroStation was derived.
1978Gerber Systems introduced its first cad/cam System
 

1980-1989

1980T&W Systems releases Versa CAD
1982Autodesk releases AutoCad the first Cad software to run on PC DOS
 P-CAD releases CADplan. Later to be purchased by CalComp and renamed CADVANCE
 Dassault Systems releases Catia 1.0
1984MCS Releases Anvil 1000 for PC DOS
 Bentley Systems introduces MicroStation for PC DOS
1985CADKEY introduces PC based 3D CAD PC Dos
1986MCS Releases Anvil 5000
 TurboCad first release in the US
1987Cadvance purchased by ISICAD becomes the first Windows based Cad System
 Intergraph acquires exclusive sales and marketing rights to MicroStation
1988EDS launches commercialization of the Parasolid Kernel
 PTC Releases Pro/ENGINEER
 

1990-1999

1990Spatial introduces ACIS as a commercial product
1994Bentley regains control of MicroSation
1995SolidWorks releases SolidWorks95 using Parasolid
 Intergraph releases SolidEdge using ACIS kernel
1999Alibre inc releases Alibre Design

The Cad Community Web Site is being launched as a service to the Cad User Group. It is currently in its startup stage.
